I was commissioned by Canada Post to design a series of five stamps for their Fungi series. The stamp series features five species of fungi that can be found across Canada. The issue features the following fungi: star-tipped reindeer lichen (Cladonia stellaris); the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus), chicken of the woods (Laetiporus sulphureus), tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius) and Rhizophagus irregularis, a microscopic arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF).
The challenging part of the project was to design the set in a way that all the fungi could be represented cohesively.
Emily Damstra, botanical illustrator, did a remarkable job in illustrating the subjects.
