I was commissioned by Canada Post to design a stamp series to raise awareness of endangered frogs in Canada. These endangered species include the Oregon Spotted Frog (Rana pretiosa) and Fowler's Toad (Anaxyrus fowleri). The Oregon spotted frog is found exclusively in British Columbia's Fraser Valley and Fowler's Toad is found only in Ontario's Lake Erie. I worked with nature and science illustrator, Emily Damstra who's beautiful illustrations made these stamps come to life.
The Official First Day Cover (OFDC) was designed to feature the Fowler's Toad on a sandy beach at Long Point Provincial park, on Lake Erie since the toad requires dune habitats to survive. We wanted the toad to have the moon behind him; as if this was a July evening. So the Canada Post expert suggested that the constellation in the background could be scorpio!
